Loreto

Loreto Facts

Altitude:
106 meters

Climate:
Average annual temperature: 26.3° (Maximum 36° and minimum 17° C). The rain season runs from November to April.

Access:
There are daily flights from Lima which take around an hour and 45 minutes. There are also connecting flights with Tarapoto and Caballococha. One can also reach this department by river from the port of Puerto La Hoyada in Pucallpa (2.5 km from the city). Boats sail down the Ucayali River to Iquitos stopping at the ports of Requena and Contamana.

The duration of the voyage depends on the type of river craft. Small but fast launches take 2-3 days depending on the river current. Trips in the La Chata, a large, slow boat, can take 4-7 days, and also depends on the river current.
