Day 01 : LIMA / HUARAZ
Our comfortable vehicle takes us via the Pan American Highway along the Pacific Ocean coast, across sand deserts and through coastal valleys to Pativilca. Here we take the Pativilca - Huaraz Highway and drive up into the Andes until we reach Conococha Lake (4,100 masl). Scenic mountains capes announce our arrival to the Callejón de Huaylas Valley between the Cordillera Negra (Black Mountain Range) and the Cordillera Blanca. We continue to Huaraz (3,100 masl), the "Capital of Mountaineering and International Friendship." We overnight at our hotel in Huaraz City.
Day 02: HUARAZ / HUALCALLAN / HUISHCASH
This morning we driving along the magnificent Callejón de Huaylas Valley watered by the Santa River and located between the Cordillera Blanca and the Cordillera Negra mountain ranges. On the way, you visit picturesque towns such as Mancos and Carhuaz and Yungay. Admiring the magnificent scenery of the Cordillera Blanca encompassing Peru's highest tropical peaks, among them Huascarán (6768 m) and Huandoy (6395 m). We arrive at Molinopampa at the beginning of the Pato Canyon. We hike across the archaeological site of Hualcallan, We arrive to Huishcash, where we camp (4,250 msnm).
Day 03: HUISHCASH / OSORURI - RUINAPAMPA
After breakfast we hike toward pre Incan stone-carved steps, and arrive to Cullicocha Lakes from where we observe the Santa Cruz peak (6,259 masl) and continue to crossing Cullicocha Pass (4,850 masl). On the way we enjoy the view of Milluacocha peak (5,480 masl). We observe also the pre inca terraces on the Credros Gorge. We descend to Ruina pampa where we camp (4,500 masl).
Day 04: RUINAPAMPA / JANCARURISHL (ALPAMAYO BASE CAMP)
Today we hike along Alpamayo Gorge. On the other side of the river once again we see ancient pre inca agricultural terraces. The predominant vegetation in this region is ichu, grassland typical of the high altitude Puna bio-region. We continue our ascent along Alpamayo River, and camp (4,600 masl). From our camp we visit the Jancarurish lake, we enjoy the astonishing panoramic view of Alpamayo (5947 masl) ice peak, considered the most beautiful mountain in the world.
Day 05 : JANCARURISH / KARA KARA PASS / HUILLCA
We ascend to the Karakara pass (4,830 masl). We enjoy the astonishing panoramic view of the Quitaraju (6,036 msnm), Santa Cruz, Alpamayo, Jancarurish (5,578 msnm) y Tayapampa (5,657 msnm) iced peaks. We descend afterwards to the Mayobamba Gorge, and climbg to Mesapata pas (4,500 masl). Today we enjoy the view of the iced peaks of Pucahirca (6,100 msnm) and the east face of the Alpamayo. We descend along the Tayapampa gorge until we arrive at our Huillca camp (4,000 masl).
Day 06: HUILLCA / JANCAPAMPA
Today we ascend to the Yanajanca pass (4,600 masl). Our way continues through the base of the Pucahirca rocky massif, where we will have a view of the wall these seracs. We descend to Sactaycocha Lake (4,056 masl), and continue to the Jancapampa a typical Andean village. Camp (3,500 masl). Beautiful view of Pucahirca iced peak.
Day 07 : JANCAPAMPA / HUECROCOCHA
Today we cross the typical Andean village of Pingospampa, and we climb the Tupa tupa pass (4,400 masl). We observe the iced peaks of Taulliraju (5,850 masl) and Pucahirca. We descend to the Quisuar gorge to the Huecrococha lake where we set up our campsite (3,950 masl).
Day 08 : HUECROCOCHA / PARIA
We ascend the Alto Pucaraju pass (4,650 masl) admiring the peaks such as Taulliraju, Paria and Chacraraju. Then we descend along the ancient pre inka way until Paria gorge where we set up our campsite at 3,780 masl.
Day 09 : PARIA / VAQUERIA / LLANGANUCO / HUARAZ
In our last day we spend hiking along Huaripampa Gorge until Vaqueria, appreciating some native communities living within the National Park, such as Huaripampa, Yanachaca and Collo. Upon arrival in Vaqueria (3,715 masl), we take our car and drive up to Portachuelo de Llanganuco (4,767 masl). View of the spectacular iced amphitheater formed by some of the highest peaks of the tropical Andes (Huandoy, Pisco, Chacraraju, Chopicallqui, and Huascarán). We descend along the Llanganuco Canyon, formed by the granite walls of Huascarán (6,768 masl) and Huandoy (6,395 masl) peaks. We drive along the beautiful turquoise Orcococha and Chinacocha lakes (3850 m) and small forest of silk-paper-barked Queñua tree and Quiswar trees that covers the canyon floor. We continue to Huaraz, and to our hotel.
Day 10 : HUARAZ / LIMA
After a relaxing breakfast we return to Lima, carrying with us unforgettable memories of our experiences in the world's largest tropical high-mountain ecosystems and the friendships we built with our adventurous companions on the trails of Cordillera Blanca and the Huascarán Biosphere Reserve. We arrive Lima in the afternoon.
