Cajamarca conjures up images of fertile fields stretching along the roadside and climbing up the hillsides and across the highland plains and ravines.

This tour also includes a visit to Kuelap Fortress located at an altitude of 3,000 meters, in the cloud forest of the department of Amazonas, Kuelap is proof of the engineering skills of the Chachapoya, a tribe who inhabited the area from 1000-1400 AD. The charming city, considered Historical and Cultural Heritage of the Americas, was transformed during the Inca period into an administrative, military and religious center of singular importance.

Although Kuelap was discovered 60 years before the citadel of Machu Picchu, it is not as well known in the world.

However, recent important archaeological discoveries in nearby areas related to Kuelap and its history have captured the attention of archaeologists, international magazines and film companies.

Itinerary:  

Day 01 : Arrival to Cajamarca

Upon arrival in Cajamarca, our private transportation will be waiting for you at the airport or bus station to take you to the town of Chillo.

On the way we will visit the town of Celendin, a beautiful town, popular for its straw handicrafts. We will cross two mountain ranges and different ecosystems such as cloud forest, agricultural land, and desert.

In addition, we will cross the Marañon River Canyon and have a cold lunch on the way.

At the end of the day, arrival to Chillo, dinner and overnight.

Day 02 : Kuelap full day

Breakfast at hotel and departure to Kuelap.

The citadel of Kuelap is made of stone, but unlike Inca architecture, featured fantastic and animal figures, and changed the traditional pattern of geometric designs. The common buildings at the Fortress of Kuelap were circular, and some of these have been reconstructed so that the few visitors who come here (due to the difficult access) can see how the people lived here.

Then we will have some time to lunch and explore the surroundings.

Return to Chillo for dinner and overnight stay in a lodge.

Day 03 : Cajamarca full day

Breakfast at hotel.

Today we will return to Cajamarca. On the way, we will have the opportunity of visiting La Jalca, church built completely in stone; and we will also visit the Museum of Leimebamba. After that, we will have time to lunch and finally return to Cajamarca.

Day 04 : Departure day

Breakfast at hotel.

At a fixed time our transportation team will be waiting at your hotel to transfer you to the airport or bus station.
