Sipan and Huaca Rajada tour
3 hours tour to the tomb of the Lord of Sipan located 33 Km (20 miles) southeast of the city on the terrain of a sugar-cane plantation.
The Lord of Sipan was found intact with all its treasures: over 200 pieces of pottery and more than 100 pieces of gold, silver and copper jewelry.
Imagine being able to view the tomb of one of the most powerful men in ancient Peru. The undisturbed remains of the Lord of Sipan were unearthed at Huaca Rajada, in Lambayeque, in the greatest archaeological discovery in Peruvian history.
In 1987 Dr. Walter Alva began his investigations in this huaca, thanks to an initial hint given by some “huaqueros” (people from the region dedicated to profane huacas), and discovered the tombs of Señor de Sipan (Lord of Sipan), tombs of priests and important Mochicans, of ritual character.
Extraordinary adornments made from gold, silver and turquoise, including breastplates and ear adornments, the most beautiful pottery and other fine objects, were excavated from the antechamber of the main discovery items intended for a royal existence in the afterlife. The historic treasure, along with many other objects, is preserved in the Royal Tombs of Sipan Museum, a world class museum.
