This tour allows people to know more about the Northern cultures of Peru: Mochica, Moche & Chimu.

Huaca Rajada complex is where archaeologists discovered the tomb of the Lord of Sipán, a high-ranking leader whose body was accompanied by gold relics and jewelry. Then, you will visit El Brujo complex, an archaeological site dating back to the Moche culture.

You will continue on your journey to Chan Chan, the former capital of the Chimu culture. It is the largest pre-Columbian city in America, and it housed an estimated 50,000 people. The huge capital contained buildings decorated with friezes which were done by molding the design into the mud walls and the more important areas were layered with precious metals.

Itinerary:  

Upon your arrival to Chiclayo, our representatives will be waiting to for you to transfer you to the selected hotel.

After check-in we will have the excursion to the magnificent mud-brick burial platform of Huaca Rajada where the world famous Tomb of the Lord of Sipan was discovered. We will admire fabulous gold artifacts, precious stones and the ancient Moche civilization’s history. The importance of this archaeological discovery was compared to the discoveries of the tomb of Tutankhamen and Machu Picchu.

Recently two of the most famous pre-Columbian tombs were found here undisturbed: the tombs of the Lord of Sipan and his ancestor, the Old Lord. The significance of these tombs is highlighted by the fact that the Lord of Sipan was buried in a wooden coffin with bronze clasps. Skeletons of those sacrificed during the funeral rites were found outside the sarcophagus; two young women at the head and feet of the lord, two men at either side of the body, and the skeleton of a dog.

Then we will visit the Brunning Museum that shows the technological and artistic character of the regional of the last 5000 years. Afterwards, we will go to the Tumbas Reales Museum and discover the historical richness there.

Today’s Lunch is included and finally we will go back to he hotel.

Departure in our private transportation to Trujillo, located 209 kilometers south of Chiclayo, visiting along the route, the village of Monsefu and the archaeological site “El Brujo complex” which belongs to the Mochica civilization.

El Brujo pyramid rises about 98 feet above the surrounding desert and covers an area of roughly 330 by 330 feet. It was built with tens of thousands of adobe bricks. The walls are covered with polychrome reliefs that show war motifs, its goods, animals, plants and net-fishing.

“El Brujo” (“The Sorcerer”), current name is due to the common practice of shamans of the North coast, to hold some of their healing ceremonies at prominent hills or prehispanic ruins, which they consider to be places of power.

Couple of  years ago, a well preserved tattooed mummy of a young woman, who belongs to the Moche Royalty, was discovered deep inside El Brujo pyramid. She has been called “Señora de Cao” and she is exhibited in the Lady of Cao Museum.

At the end of the day, arrival to Trujillo, also known as “The city of eternal spring” because of its blessed climate and festive atmosphere. Overnight at Trujillo.

We will start with a morning city tour including a panoramic visit of the downtown, surrounded by colonial mansions in Trujillo and marvel at their well-preserved and imposing portals, balconies and churches.

The city tour includes the Archaeological Museum of the “Universidad Nacional de Trujillo” for an overview of the region’s pre-Columbian cultures. The Cathedral and Casinelli Museum: Mr. Cassinelli’s work is tied up in the private Cassinelli Museum. It preserves and displays as many as 2,000 items of ceramic pottery, including the famous erotic works of the Moche, while storing 2,000 more off-site due to lack of space.  Return to the hotel.

Finally, you will have a free afternoon for rest or explore on your own.

First, you will visit the Arco Iris Temple (Dragon temple) from the Chimu Culture, then you will visit the archeological complex of Chan Chan, the ancient Capital of the Chimu Kingdom.

Chan Chan is a “must” for all visitors. It is considered to be the largest mud-brick city in the pre-Hispanic Latin America, its higher development were reached between the XII and XIV centuries. This place was home to 100,000 habitants who stubbornly resisted the expansion of the Inca Empire. Then, it was conquered by the Incas and finally abandoned before the arrival of the Spaniards.

Then we will continue to Huanchaco, a traditional seaside near Chan-Chan, ideal for lunch at one of its typical restaurants. Also, you will have the opportunity to watch the local fishermen on their traditional “Caballitos de Totora” or reed boats.

Finally, we will transfer to the bus station or airport.
