Arequipa City, Colca Canyon and Mummy Juanita | Arequipa Tours

Reception at the airport and transportation to the hotel. We will start our Arequipa tour visiting the following:

It is located a 2 km to the center of the city , with the same name district, have beautiful and older streets ,and in the highest is located the main square and the famous church. You have an interesting view of the city.

a 7 km of the city center, where you can see incas’s scaffold, their churches have pictures of the Cusqueña college. In this place happened the meeting for the peace entrance of Chile army in 1879. Place for entertainment, you can find typical arequipean restaurants.

a 10 km of the city , beautiful field based of volcano: Chanchani, Misti y Pichupichu, Unique and farmer town with incas’s scaffolds, with a lot of manantials. This is a place with good weather, sun and fresh air and the Molino de Sabandía is in the middle of all, it was created in 1,622 and restructured in the 70’s by the Hipotecario Bank of Perú. The Molino work for the hydraulic force of the little river.

Since de city of Arequipa until Tingo you can see a lot of the field special the district of Socabaya. Places like Huasacache and pampas del Cusco you can see the river Postrero.

Place located in Socabaya border river, there is a viceroyal big house named Mansion del Founder, was constructed in XVIII century.

It is the most important and impressive monument religious construction of Perú. Founded on september 1579, for Santa Catalina de Siena vocation, it was close until 1970. It has a 20,426 m2 , it has the characteristic of the century XVI and XVII, it’s narrow streets, gardens and squares have Spanish names and remind the old neighbourhood of Granada and Sevilla, there are museums with important artists pieces like porcelain, religious ornaments , sculptures, pictures of different colleges.

Breakfast departure to Chivay: 08:00am we will go towards the Valley of the Colca, throughout the way is observed beautiful landscapes, Snow-covered mountains and the reserve of vicuñas. Soon we will arrive at Chivay and we will follow towards the thermal baths the CALERA (15º thermus medicinal waters) located to 15minutes to the town for which it is necessary to wear bath clothes, soon we returned to Chivay, where we will get accommodation in the hotel, soon in afternoon will be able to visit the town of Chivay, the artisan market and to make some purchases, at night, we will have supper with Creole show.

At 06:00 a.m., breakfast and soon we will go towards the Viewpoint de la Cruz of the Cóndor, strategic zone to appreciate the Colca Canyon and flight of the Cóndores, after we will return by the same way, we will appreciate the hanging tombs pre-Incas, litomaquetas, viewpoint of terraces and small towns like Pinchollo, Maca, Yanque, stopping in each 20 town 10 or min. We will arrive at Chivay at around 1 pm. Lunch and transfer back to Arequipa.

Breakfast and then we will visit Juanita Mommy and the city museum, where we can find volcano’s valley maquette and also we have an exposition about the pacific war. Juanita Mummy, the Ampato volcano girl was discovery in septiembre 8th 1995, by the Dr. Johan Reinhard for the eruption of the volcan Sabancaya. The volcano has a 6,380 of altitud and had for more the 500 years that girl who was about 13 o 14 years old, she was offered to the Apu Ampato for the Incas priest. The visit takes 2 hours and begins watching a video where is represented all the ritual previous to offering, it was made in Ampato volcano. After we are looking for the urns where the mommy Juanita is and 2 more mummies ; also all the ornamentation that was with her. In the afternoon we suggest to make shopping.
